Biblical Perfume – Myrrh

« Peace and Contemplation »

“I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride; I have gathered my myrrh with my spice. I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey; I have drunk my wine and my milk. Eat, friends, and drink; drink your fill of love.”
Song 5,1

A PERFUME THAT SOOTHES AND SPURS CONTEMPLATION

The Myrrh perfume by La Voie Parfumée will plunge you into a profound feeling of peace and meditation. Indeed, myrrh has often been the symbol of the feminine pole associated with the mystery of death, with night, and contemplation. The substance is central to the proceedings of mummification; it ensures that the body and soul alike are resistant to rot.

COMPOSITION

A perfume made from myrrh, whose suavity the Song of Songs constantly sings of, enhanced by several aromatic plants and a fine blend of tangerines. Its odour is warm, balsamic, aromatic, and slightly acrid, its savour is bitter.

BIBLICAL REFERENCES

Twelve centuries after the Exodus, the body of Christ itself was embalmed with a mix made from myrrh, following a custom borrowed by the Jews from the Egyptians. It was the same that Jesus received as a child from the Wise Men in the Christmas Crib. However, the wine mixed with myrrh that the evangelist Mark talks about (15, 23) at the Passion of Christ, evokes a Jewish practice where the condemned receives a soothing substance that may somewhat diminish the pain of the tortured. On a medical level, myrrh possesses antiseptic and sedative properties.
