“In Jerusalem lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of
the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.”
John 5, 3
AN ANGELIC ESSENCE
La Voix Parfumée’s Eau de Toilette, Eau d’Ange or “Angel’s Water,” is issued from a long tradition. It mixes benzoin with the scents of the Guaiac wood and rose heart, and with the freshness of Neroli, an essence extracted from the flower of
the ‘bigaradier’, from the Seville orange tree.
HISTORY
Angel’s water became very fashionable during the Renaissance because of the development of maritime trade and the import of exotic products. The water is therefore obtained from benzoin, a resin rubber imported from Sumatra, in
Indonesia. This water was celebrated by François Rabelais, who used to prescribe it to the religious women of the Abbey of Thelema as a cure for diverse airborne diseases such as cholera, the Black Death, or Malaria.
