Eau de Parfum – Reine Margot
On a base of Amber, almost honey-like, and a slightly strong sensual Musk, the perfume adds a floral note distilled by a fresh Jasmine as a stronger head note, a brighter, more sensual, very narcotic and addictive Jasmine.
Queen Margot, mostly known for the novel that Alexandre Dumas dedicated to her, was born under the name of Margaret of Valois, in 1553. Her image is that of a woman of great beauty and great culture, as expressed by her Memoirs and various
poetries.
The queen always remained faithful to the classic scents of amber and musk that accompanied a powerful jasmine. Margaret regularly ordered those three scents at great expense from a Parisian supplier. From her mother Catherine de Medici, she kept the fineness of royal houses, to write on armoured paper and to her perfume. Several testimonies of the time talk of Margaret of Valois’s elegance and perfumes, either to praise her or afflict this image of “femme fatale” that Alexandre Dumas used about her. Thanks to Janine Garrison’s research, Nicolas de Barry was able to recreate the perfume of this outstanding queen.
Janine Garrison plunged herself for years in the depths of the National Archives and, in particular, worked on the accountability of the House of the Queen of Navarre. There, the orders, always the same, are found on particular dates: musk, amber and jasmine. As a woman of the Renaissance, as a creator (of fashion, of poetry…), Margaret gets working and prepares herself ointments with these precious raw materials.
