The Queen of Hungary’s Water – Aqua Mirabilis
The Queen of Hungary’s Water – Aqua Mirabilis
Eau de la Reine de Hongrie – Aqua Mirabilis
Originally, it’s an alcoholate of rosemary flowers created in 1370 for the bride of King Charles Robert of Hungary, Elizabeth of Poland. The queen of Hungary used it extensively throughout her life, internally and externally. The legend recounts that
this marvellous water (received from the hands of an angel) allowed her to preserve her beauty and was the reason the prince of Poland proposed to her, when she was 72. No historical confirmation supports this beautiful story. But it contributed to making the water a mystical product until the eighteenth century… the Water restitutes the notably peculiar aroma of the rosemary flower, on top of a structure of medicinal herbs (rosemary, sage, lavender, thyme, etc.), and has for objective to be an Eau de Santé, “Healthy Water”, already foreshadowing the future Cologne.
